How can online physiotherapy help me?

Most people's traditional view of Physiotherapy is that it involves "hands on" treatment. In reality, this is only a small portion of what Physios do to assist with injury management. Educating you about your condition, identifying contributing factors from your lifestyle, as well as instigating a structured and tailored exercise program, are some of the most important things Physiotherapists do.

Over the last 5 to 10 years, Physiotherapy has moved away from a reliance on complex machines and manual techniques, and towards rehabilitation programs carried out under guidance. This puts you in much more control of your own recovery. Research has shown that outcomes can be effective through online consultation, due to the empowering nature of the system.

Naturally, if we feel you have an injury that requires "hands on" Physiotherapy, we will let you know!

Research supporting the effectiveness of video consultations/telehealth

There are multiple resources looking at the effect of video consultation (Telehealth) when compared to face to face physiotherapy. Real-time tele rehabilitation appears to be effective and comparable to conventional methods of healthcare delivery for the improvement of physical function and pain in a variety of musculoskeletal conditions. How can online physio help you if you’re not being touched?

All Physiotherapy appointments start with a 'subjective assessment' (whether this is face to face or online), in which the Physiotherapist will ask you a well-structured series of questions designed to discover what they need to know about your injury (without touching you). By the end of the subjective assessment, the Physio should already have a very clear idea of your probable diagnosis. The Physio may then perform some tests to conform this diagnosis.

Your Online Physio Physiotherapist will contact you with any further queries about your injury once they have reviewed your original assessment. They may prompt you to answer further questions, or perform certain movements, and will then assess your feedback regarding these. This process should clarify diagnosis. If we are ever unsure of your diagnosis, we will not hesitate to recommend you for face to face physiotherapy.

What happens during a video consultation and how do I arrange an appointment?

You will be invited to your video consultation prior to your appointment. This can be sent to your preferred contact information (email; WhatsApp; Signal; Text message). When the time comes for your appointment, you simply click the link (often there is no need to download the app). Get yourself into a room where you won’t be disturbed (if possible) and have your phone or laptop in a position so I can see you clearly (for assessments and exercise demonstration). I will be in my office and will not be overheard. Rest assured this will new a confidential consultation. Please wear something comfortable so that you can move around easily.

I will record the consultation and send it to you, then delete it from my computer (unless you specifically ask me not to do this).

You can book your appointment through the online booking system (button at the top of this page)

I look forward to seeing you at our scheduled time.

Will my health insurance cover an online consultation?

Since the COVID-19 situation, most insurance companies are covering online consultations with registered physiotherapists.

Ask your health insurance provider if they are cover online physiotherapy consultations.

We can provide a receipt for you to issue to your insurance company.

How do I know if I am performing my prescribed exercises correctly?

The wonders of modern technology open up a whole world of possibility. With your consultation, you receive unlimited follow up consultations. You could attach a photo or video of yourself doing the exercise/s, or even organise for us to check them via your webcam in real time!

All the exercise descriptions are very clear and illustrated by photo or video, so often this makes things very clear.

Treatment Modalities

We offer a multitude of treatment modalities. Each are specifically chosen for YOUR particular needs, following your full musculoskeletal assessment.

Not all are named here.

Our treatment modalities should be seen as adjuncts to aid your specific rehabilitation. We believe that passive treatments aid rehabilitation by reducing pain, encouraging flexibility and preparing you for the most important part of your management - your rehabilitation program.
